A trip to Skardu doesn't have to break the bank. With some careful planning, you can experience the magic of the mountains on a reasonable budget. Here’s how.
1. Travel in the Shoulder Season
The peak summer months (June-August) are the most expensive. Consider traveling in the shoulder seasons—May or September/October. The weather is still beautiful, the autumn colors are stunning, and you'll find lower prices on flights, hotels, and tours.
2. Join a Group Tour
The biggest cost in Skardu is transportation, specifically hiring a private 4x4 jeep for day trips to places like Deosai. Joining one of our group tour packages is the most effective way to cut costs, as you'll share the price of the vehicle and guide with other travelers.
3. Eat Local
Dine at local restaurants in Skardu Bazaar instead of expensive hotel restaurants. You'll get a taste of authentic Balti cuisine for a fraction of the price. A plate of Mamtu (dumplings) or a hearty local soup can be both delicious and incredibly cheap.
4. Stay in Guesthouses
While luxury hotels are nice, Skardu has many clean, comfortable, and budget-friendly guesthouses. Places like the Masherbrum Hotel or the PTDC Motel offer great value for money.
5. Fly Smart
The flight to Skardu is a significant expense. Book your tickets well in advance, especially if you plan to travel in the peak season. Being flexible with your dates by a day or two can also help you find cheaper fares.
By following these tips, you can significantly reduce your Skardu trip cost and make your dream mountain adventure a reality.
